For those interested in history, Straubing offers the Sorviodurum Roman Park, in which parts of the fortifications of the stone fort of the first Canaanite cohort and parts of the camp village can be seen. The Gäuboden folk festival, the second largest folk festival in Bavaria after the Oktoberfest in Munich, takes place in August. Here you can also visit the East Bavaria show. The water park awaits you all year round. AQUAtherm, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool with different pools. The zoo with its over 1700 native and exotic animals is also worth the trip. It takes about an hour to get from the Hotel Bergknappenhof, either via Deggendorf or St. Englmar. Straubing has a lot to offer in terms of sport. Two golf courses, in Kirchroth and Fruhstorf, Nordic walking routes, hiking trails, cycle paths along the Danube, ice skating in the ice rink are just a few examples. For those interested in ice hockey, a game of the "Straubing Tigers" is a must.
