The glass town of Zwiesel invites you on a varied excursion.
you reach Zwiesel from the Hotel Bergknappenhof via Langdorf in about 20 minutes. The saying: Fine glass and good wood are Zwiesel's The two main raw materials that have made Zwiesel famous are proud to show off. The town in the Bavarian Forest offers you pure nature with a wide variety of hiking options. Stroll through the Bavarian Forest Nature Park or hike up to the Grosser Arber, Lusen, Rachel or Falkenstein. With a bit of luck, you can observe wild animals in their natural environment in the Bavarian Forest National Park. After all the exertion, let yourself be pampered at the Bergknappenhof wellness hotel.
Culturally, Zwiesel also has a lot to offer. Visit the Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas, the former landmark of the city. Its tower is 86 m high, making it the highest church in both the Bavarian Forest and the Diocese of Passau. Another tallest building, even in the world, is the tallest crystal glass pyramid. Zwiesel Kristallglas AG had this pyramid built from 93665 wine glasses stacked on top of each other without glue. This figure is covered in a transparent glass jacket. The glass pyramid has now become the landmark of the city of Zwiesel. If you want something a little more mystical, visit the underground passages, which are labyrinth-like, 10 m to 21 m deep under the town square. On regular tours you can wander through these cellar vaults and marvel at the exhibition of well-known artists there. The team at the Wellness Hotel Bergknappenhof will be happy to arrange an appointment for you.
The town of Zwiesel is famous for two other delicacies. Firstly, for the incomparable Bärwurz, and secondly for the steam beer. You can try the Bärwurz for free in the tasting room of the Bärwurzerei Hieke, a short film shows the production of the high-proof liquor. Here you will also find a funny Wolpertinger show with talking trees. (even more impressive after your stay in the tasting room). The 1st Zwiesel steam beer brewery is known for the steam beer, which is made from an old traditional recipe. A tour of the glass brewery is also worthwhile. The Hennenkobel mountain, which has 56 different minerals to offer, is worth seeing. This makes the Hennenkobel second in the Bavarian Forest, after the Silberberg in Bodenmais.
