It is interesting to note that the Great Pfahl was awarded second place in the 2 national competition for exemplary protection and care measures for the preservation of historical cultural landscapes in the nature parks. Two circular hiking trails lead you around the Pfahl and give you lots of interesting information about the geology as well as the flora and fauna. The former loading station, the associated braking station and the old forge at the abandoned quarry are evidence of industrial quartz mining. Visit the most striking points: the Great Pfahl near Viechtach on the B 1992 towards Cham, the Pfahl near the Weißenstein castle ruins, Regen and the Pfahl near Thierlstein Castle near Cham, which you can quickly reach by car from the Wellness Hotel Bergknappenhof.
