A popular destination for guests of the Hotel Bergknappenhof is the Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg.

You can reach the animal enclosure on the Grosser Arber, just 28 km from the Bergknappenhof wellness hotel, in just 33 minutes by car. You can see around 100 different species of animals here in their natural environment. The family-friendly zoo is open all year round. The little ones will love the petting zoo and the beautiful playground. In addition to the snowy owl, great grey owl and griffon vulture, you will also find smaller mammals such as beavers, otters and wild cats. Of course, the bison, lynx, red deer and wolf are not to be missed. The Eurasian wolf, Canis lupus lupus, as the shy ancestor of the domestic dog, impresses young and old. The extensive, informative exhibition on the wolf gives many interesting insights into the life and behavior of the wolf and you can feel the mystique that emanates from this fascinating animal first hand. Workshops on building insect hotels or an introduction to animal photography are offered, you can attend a night tour, a hands-on day or the summer festival or listen to lectures on mushrooms, owls or "Fascination of Wolves". The only zoo in Upper Palatinate has been in existence for over 25 years and now has more than 400 animals. On the nature trail that accompanies you through the zoo, you will learn a lot of interesting information about the flora and fauna of the Bavarian-Bohemian border region. Dogs are allowed in this zoo if they are kept on a leash. All main paths of the Bayerwald Zoo are accessible with a wheelchair or stroller. Free parking is available directly at the entrance.
